The Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto has been successful in applying for the Jean Monnet Chair “Inclusive Communities for European Industry 5.0 – IC4EU” in the ERASMUS-JMO-2024-HEI-TCH-RSCH call. The project is co-funded by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) within the European Commission.
The project leader, Prof. Ph.D. Tea Golob, emphasises that the aim of the project is to follow the latest trends, insights and developments in the field of European Industry 5.0 and to integrate them into the teaching process, research activities and several events that will promote dialogue and cooperation between academia and relevant societal actors, such as policy makers, the economy and civil society.
In October, we will start the first teaching activities in the Research Methodology course. The Chair will also present at the 17th Slovenian Social Science Conference, where Prof. Ph.D. Tea Golob will discuss the role of action research in understanding and promoting Industry 5.0. The involvement of students in the research process will also play an important role.
The Jean Monnet Chair IC4EU considers European industry as a multidimensional concept that enables the provision of social welfare beyond economic growth and linear development. It builds on the needs highlighted in the Industry 5 document. 0 – Towards a sustainable, people-centred and resilient European industry (2021) and responds to a pressing question highlighted by the European Directorate General for Research and Innovation: how to enable the acceleration of the dual green and digital transition, leading to a more sustainable and resilient society and economy – and industry is seen as one of the key enablers of this dual transition.
The Chair aims to strengthen interdisciplinary EU studies addressing sustainable, human-centred and resilient European industries and the related role of the digital divide and the digital skills gap. The Chair’s activities aim to offer innovative educational tools (open learning, co-creation of learning materials, virtual classrooms) that can be used elsewhere in Europe and consequently improve the sustainability competences identified in GreenComp – European Framework of Sustainability Competences (EC, 2022).
By highlighting the important role of European internal cohesion, we want to contribute to raising awareness of the EU’s long-term digital policy vision for a sustainable and competitive industry and the EU’s global leadership in this field.
