Traineeships abroad

The Call for Students on Work Placement (SMP) for the academic year 2024/2025 has been published. The application form for the Training Call can be found here. The deadline for applications is 31 October 2024. In the event that fewer applications are received than the number of places available, FIŠ will receive additional applications until the places are filled or the funding is exhausted. For information, please contact erasmus@fis.unm.si.

Under Erasmus+, you can also do a traineeship or practical training abroad in a company or organisation in a participating country. Host organisations for student placements can be companies, training centres, research centres and other organisations, including higher education institutions. Through this type of mobility, students learn about the demands of the European labour market, develop their work experience, language skills and knowledge of other cultures, and build an international community of professionals in their field.

The duration of the traineeship may be for a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 12 months, unless otherwise provided for in agreements concluded or rules adopted by the FIŠ Senate. It is of particular interest to students of the VS programme at the Faculty, as it is a way of fulfilling part of your study obligations. To contact companies abroad, please consult the table with up-to-date information on placement opportunities abroad and contact the International Exchange Office and the International Cooperation Coordinator (erasmus@fis.unm.si), who is available to help and consult you in your placement abroad. To facilitate your work, it is advisable to send a short CV with your experience to the International Exchange Office in case of an internship.

Students of the UN, MSc and DR programmes can also do a work placement abroad, even if the work placement is not foreseen in the study programme. Once you have completed your traineeship abroad, the work placement will be entered in the Diploma Supplement.

For more traineeship opportunities abroad, you can look at the platform erasmusintern.org, STORY is a project to find and publicise internships for young Europeans who want to do practical training, traineeships or internships abroad. You can also visit the website globalplacement.com, for traineeship opportunities around the world.

Conditions for a traineeship abroad

Students who meet the basic conditions for Erasmus+ student status set out in the programme can apply for a placement abroad:

  • you must be a national of one of the Erasmus+ participating countries or a national of another country while enrolled in a higher education institution in a participating country, under the conditions set by each participating country and taking into account the nature of the programme;;
  • you must have active student status at the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto while studying abroad;
  • you are enrolled in at least the first year of higher education when the mobility is for the purpose of a traineeship;
  • the other conditions laid down in the call for proposals are met.

Recognition of liabilities

Your obligations abroad will be paid to you in accordance with rules recognised as a work placement obligation in the VS programme. Before the exchange, you should therefore coordinate your obligations abroad with the recognition of your obligations at the faculty. For this purpose, the International Exchange Office is at your disposal to work out an exchange plan with you. The Erasmus+ grant is refundable in case you fail to fulfil the agreed obligations abroad. For more information, please visit www.erasmusplus.si.

FIŠ students can apply for co-financing of Erasmus+ study mobility abroad by sending or bringing a completed form to FIŠ. The number of places available, the amount of the monthly grant and the number of approved grant months per student vary from year to year and depend on the amount of funding approved by the National Agency (CMEPIUS).

All ERASMUS+ documents can be found on the website www.erasmusplus.si.

Online Linguistic Support (OLS)

Erasmus+ students have the possibility to use the EACEA’s Online Linguistic Support (OLS) during their exchange. Link to OLS presentation

By signing the grant agreement, mobility participants undertake to complete the OLS assessment (before and at the end of the mobility period) and to follow the OLS language course, if awarded. FIŠ guarantees the use of the licences and makes every effort to ensure that the selected participants make use of all the licences granted. Beneficiaries shall follow the instructions for the use of the OLS provided by the service provider.

Read more about the OLS itself in the programme overview, the assessment overview and the language course descriptions.
