On Tuesday, 5 December 2023, our Dean, Prof. Dr. Matej Makarovič, together with representatives of nine other educational and R&D institutions from the area of south-eastern Slovenia, signed a charter for the establishment of a public university in Novo mesto. The aim of this action is to bring together the region’s educational and research institutions into a single, public entity.

The co-signatories of the declaration stressed that the existing programmes, staff and organisation allow for quality growth, effective integration and cooperation of all the region’s higher education institutions in the field of teaching and scientific research. The establishment of a new public university in Novo mesto would provide all the necessary conditions for even more effective teaching and programme development of all higher education institutions and institutions operating in the region of south-eastern Slovenia.

In addition to our faculty, the declaration was signed by representatives of the private University of Novo mesto, the Faculty of Economics and Informatics, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Business and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Organisational Studies Novo mesto, the Faculty of Industrial Engineering Novo mesto, the Grm Novo mesto College of Rural Management and the Rudolfovo Public Research Institute – Scientific Research Centre Novo mesto.

The initiative to sign the Charter came from Krka, the pharmaceutical factory, and the regional industry. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation has also been informed of the signing of the declaration by representatives of the signatories.
